“I have had many good experiences with Arvada West Veterinary Hospital. The one in particular that stands out is the night several years ago when I called Dr. Carpenter to help me with my senior dog, Tucker.
Tucker was panting heavily, and his gums were very pale. We knew he had a mass on his spleen because he had been x-rayed recently for a case of pneumonia, which we were treating. Once it was resolved, the plan was to go in and remove his spleen, but Tucker had other plans. Before the pneumonia was resolved, the mass on his spleen ruptured, and the rupture caused the symptoms that I saw.
Dr. Carpenter told me to bring Tucker down to the hospital immediately. He met me there — it was now 10:30 p.m. A brief exam confirmed that Tucker was indeed hemorrhaging internally. Dr. Carpenter stabilized him and then rushed home and brought back, Nick, one of his own dogs. He drew blood from Nick and gave Tucker a blood transfusion. He then immediately took Tucker in to surgery and removed his spleen.
Tucker survived and lived two more years. Dr. Carpenter is simply the best.”
For over 25 years, the Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club has conducted an active rescue program finding homes for homeless and abandoned Scottish Terriers up and down the Colorado Front Range, placing over 700 Scotties in their new, forever homes. For that entire timeframe, the Club has utilized the professional services of Arvada West Veterinary Hospital (AWVH).
The foundation of this long-lived relationship is based on many factors, but primarily the superb quality of care provided by the veterinarians and staff of AWVH. All Scotties entering the rescue program receive a thorough health examination at AWVH and often present a wide variety of health conditions. Some require nothing more that an update of their routine vaccinations, spaying or neutering and a heartworm test. Others present more complicated conditions or ailments requiring significant treatment and attention. Regardless of the need, all the rescue Scotties receive the very best of care and attention at AWVH.
Throughout this entire timeframe, Dr. Scott Carpenter has been closely involved in the care and treatment of the rescue Scotties. Dr. Carpenter’s consistent support of the rescue program over the years in providing essential veterinary care to many homeless and abandoned Scotties has allowed them to begin their new lives with restored health and the promise of a bright future. His attentive, professional care has been instrumental to the program’s success and clearly demonstrates Dr. Carpenter to be a caring, compassionate professional who admirably represents the highest standards of veterinary medicine. As testament to his professional capabilities, Dr. Carpenter received the prestigious “Veterinarian of the Year” award in 2008 presented by the Colorado Veterinary Medical Society. It should also be noted that many individuals and families who initially adopt their Scotties from the program continue on as clients of AWVH after the placement.
While our experience with AWVH has been focused upon the care and treatment of Scottish Terriers, there can be little doubt that the attentive, professional, compassionate care provided at AWVH translates over equally well to other breeds of dogs and cats. There is simply no substitute for quality care for your companion animals, whether it be for routine preventative care or critical care at a time of need.
The Rocky Mountain Scottish Terrier Club heartily endorses AWVH and Dr. Scott Carpenter to all who desire quality, compassionate, professional care for the four-legged members of their family.
