Surgery Policy
One of our staff will call you the day before your pet’s surgery to remind you of your appointment and go over pre-surgery instructions. On the night before a procedure, please give your dog NO food, treats or snacks after 8 p.m. It is ok to give your pet water all night. Please do NOT feed your pet breakfast in the morning before surgery, but it is alright to give your pet water.
Please drop your pet off between 7-8 a.m., and pick up them up between 4-6 p.m. If your pet needs to stay past that time frame, the doctor on the case will notify you. Upon drop off, please allow enough time to read and sign the release form for the procedure requested. Please feel free to ask any other questions that you many have at that time.
We highly recommend pre-anesthetic blood work before any anesthetic is introduced to your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood panel will tell us how your pet’s liver and kidneys are functioning to metabolize the anesthetic. This is also a good panel to have in your pet’s profile, should your pet become ill in the future with organ values elevated. We will have a “baseline” profile showing what the various levels are when they are healthy. We administer an IV catheter and fluids to all patients who will be having a procedure. The IV catheter is in place in the event of an emergency so that we can have fast, easy access to administer injectable drugs or antibiotics. Fluids are administered to keep your pet well hydrated while under anesthesia.
