Chronic Pet Pain Pain

Chronic pain persists or progresses over a long period of time, which lasts longer than 30 days.  It may be caused by arthritis, cancer or spinal pain. It can be managed with proper medication to help alleviate the discomfort.  Sometimes, as the disease progresses, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) begins to not work as effectively.  When this happens, we take a multi-modal approach and add drugs that will work together as a team and reduce the amount of pain and help your pet feel comfortable again. When your pet is on a medication for long term, blood work may be required before we start the medication and to manage your pet’s condition during the duration that they are on the medication.  We monitor liver and kidney values to ensure that there is no organ damage due to the long-term use.  Organ damage can be a side effect for some medications if we do not monitor them effectively.
